The Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) invites applications for full-time summer internships at its offices in Granger, Seattle, Tacoma and Wenatchee.

Interns are asked to commit to 35-40 hours per week for a period of 10-12 weeks. Candidates with additional language skills are highly preferred. Internships can be hybrid, face-to-face or remote and are subject to the office`s COVID policies and capabilities. Some positions in NWIRP`s East Washington offices will be funded; All other positions are unpaid, but the NRDSP will work with applicants to secure external funding or academic credits where possible. Interns have direct contact with a rapidly changing work environment that emphasizes immigration law and advocacy. In the winter of 2018, Legal Aid partnered with Harvard University to offer “Winterships” to Harvard students. The Winternship allowed students to accompany staff for 1-3 days during their winter vacation in January, giving them the opportunity to observe court hearings and ask questions. It provides participants with hands-on experience and educates students about the work the Legal Aid Society does to serve New Yorkers. ODAS summer interns gain experience in client counselling, fact-finding, harm reduction, legal research, shorthand writing and oral advocacy (where possible).

Because Michigan has a unique criminal appeal process that allows for de facto direct appeal development, articling students can expect to work in both courts and appellate courts and participate in court of appeals hearings and arguments. Articling students are paired with a lawyer and work with other ODAS team members, including investigators, social workers and support staff. Currently, we expect some work to be done in person, including client visits and court visits. Personal work is evaluated against public health information and SADA policy.
